Chinese Junk
Offered for sale is a 1959 Chinese River Junk, Ling Po. Built in Hong Kong, she is 30 feet long and solid hardwood. She was sailed from Hong Kong to Hawaii in the early 60's where she had a cameo in a surf movie, then on to Los Angeles where she has been in the water in Marina del Rey ever since. She was also featured in a History Channel movie, White Tigers of the Korean War. I have the original builder's papers. This junk is a sister ship to the junks sold in the Neiman Marcus 1960 His & Hers Christmas Catalog, "Junk for Christmas". The originals sold for $11,700. ($84,000. in todays dollar) for the his & hers pair. There are still a few out there, scattered all over the world! |
